Summer is now almost over and we are starting to plan our autumn schedule which is already starting to look busy, but we have booked ourselves a break away in October just before it starts to get cold here. Our family were over for a couple of weeks and were due to fly back on the 10th August the day of the big security scare so a small panic a quick visit to the Ryanair site rebooked for two days later, unpack toothbrushes and on with the extra holiday. You may remember in one of my previous updates we were sitting round our log fire, well we have gone one step further now and installed a wood burning stove “Aga” this now drives the radiators which had become only idle ornaments because of the cost of gas, and as it also cooks we save even more on gas and electricity so it should pay back the high cost of installation fairly quickly so should be a cosy winter in store.
As we have already invested in my tractor earlier in the year which again was a hefty chunk of money, I am sorry to say the Olympic size swimming pool is off the menu yet again for another year or two, but we did mange to buy an above ground pool which has proved a hit both with the grandchildren and adults alike and there is the bonus it can be put away when its summer use is over. Still roll up the sleeves work even harder and start to build the pot up again, bet there is something else along the way which will drain it again before we get round to it, I suppose the bottom line is a pool is only good for a very limited time each year, and there are a hundred other things that we can get much more use out of. Another thing that is starting to bother me is the landscape, I now walk down the hill towards our house and all I see are great ugly stark bright blue blobs that are an absolute eyesore in our otherwise beautiful countryside, these owners might go to the lengths of trying blend them in to the surroundings a little more instead of parading them as status symbols, I do hope in the not to distant future some of the local planners will be a little more vigilant on pool siting I have seen one particular pool at the bottom of the valley that has had imported what looks like a giant slag heap and planted a pool on top of it now that’s ugly! but you may say its just jealousy who knows. It does seem sometimes that my beautiful rural Le Marche is not much more than a big holiday home complex these days, it does provide our living but how I long for a stop to this I can build it bigger better and brasher than you mentality that has come with the big bucks. Was looking through this page while updating and realised we have been here a long time and aging as well (well me anyway) picture last month , taken by a nice Dutch couple who stayed with us in June thanks for the picture Hans and Ank.
