Apartment to rent between Sarnano and Amandola Macerata Marche Italy

News March 2003

Winter has broken (I hope) and all is well with the world again, no more thoughts about upping sticks and moving to warmer climes. the buds are now almost breaking into blossom on the Cherry trees, and other signs that spring is on the way means I am now back on top form and the winter blues have passed. Last spring was a pretty miserable time with lots of rain, and next to no sunshine. So lets hope this year is nearer to normal, although we are not alone with the global warming sending the world weather into turmoil we never seem to know what to expect next.
Still back on to other things now, our progress in “Our Italy” continues to expand at a greater rate than we could have hoped for. Although our first self contained apartment is still heading for completion, it will be a couple of weeks behind schedule from the planned end of March.a_a_bits_of_wood The weather has been to icy and snowy for the supplies to be delivered for almost six weeks, so we are having to work much harder to try and catch up some of the lost time. So we are now taking bookings for the self catering apartment from the second week in April, this is of course in addition to our ongoing Bed and Breakfast which has kept us full and busy even through the winter months. Our guests have without exception been a pleasure to accommodate, and we hope that we have been of help to them for what ever they were here for, from exploring the region to searching for property. It has meant for us a rich mixture of all the great local people who have become our very good friends, and the many new friends we have made through our B&B this has given us a full and varied social life.
I could write so much about our life here but it is always a case of trying to keep it short enough not to bore people, I am sure we must leave quite a bit of news out but there is always so much happening. Our family often ask “what do you find to do there” but life is full and complete, and what more can anyone ask for. I will end here as I have rambled on enough for one month, and also we are expecting “Pepe and family” down to start on our new vineyard soon, plus the phone has just gone and some more English people are on their way to us any time now.

News April 2003

An update on our vineyard after a weeks hard digging, we have now planted our vines plus some new fruit trees to keepa_a_vineyard_2 up the replanting of the land. it was meant to be more olive trees but we now have enough for our own needs. So Liz decided that her talents with preserving and pickling would mean more fruit, so we now have extra apple, apricot ,and pear trees to test her skills. The weather has been so changeable from the high twenties centigrade, then back to snow and really cold winds I am just hoping we get a decent summer. This spring has been late in arriving as after the start of spring last month it suddenly stopped and we are still waiting for the blossom to break.  Anyway moaning aside, it is with much thanks to Dante and Pepe for making sure the vineyard and fruit trees are properly planted, my feeble efforts last year with just four vines made sure only one survived their first year, there is no doubt at all that starting a new life here would have been so much harder without the help and backing of our neighbours and friends. The extra work I have had to put into the apartment with the hold ups have meant I am almost back on schedule and will only be about one week behind. So if you would like to visit us we can confirm we are now taking bookings for both the apartment, and bed and breakfast you will find prices on the services page of the web site. We continue to learn about life here and all its twists from the rather extreme weather changes, through to doing things the “Italian”way and the ever changing property market. So we hope to keep being a source of help and information to the many people who stay with us or get in touch with us. One last piece on news this month, elsewhere on the news pages you will read about our young dogs development and mishaps usually it is Daisy getting herself into bother. Well this month Poppy now carries the crown as she somehow in her scavenging nature picked up some poison,so she was in intensive treatment in a really bad way with not much chance of making it. But with her vitality and youth she pulled through Ok with the help of a great vet(grazie mille Dott. Eraldo Lombi), here there is always help at hand.
