Spring has well and truly broken at last after the late snow earlier this month, yes after we thought the bad weather was behind us it gave us one last blast just after the new vinyard went in. It is nice to enjoy the warmth and sunshine amongst the full blossom now on the trees, vines starting to shoot, and grass growing so fast you can almost see it. My winter blues have well and truly passed all thoughts of being somewhere else far behind me, we are once again sure that we really have found our little piece of paradise. We are now in full swing toward even more planting towards the ”good life”we have become used to, and with yet another year behind us even more confident about the crops we grow. Liz will be very busy this year with the extra crops not only for fresh use, but for preserving and pickling, she is an absolute master at these skills now. Some of our family were out over Easter which was nice, it helps to know the world is a small place now, with good transport into Ancona and Pescara(Ryanair), and the internet means living here does not mean isolation. The grandsons thought it was great to be able to drive up the mountains and sleigh, then come back down and play outside in the sunshine. They were lucky it was only the earlier cold spell that meant the snows on the slopes have been later in clearing for the summer. In fact far from isolation, we see a lot of family here, and with our large circle of friends both new and old, since moving here life is sometimes quite hectic. But there is always a kind of serenity to this region of Italy lush, always green, and every week new sights to behold. We have the wooded areas full of new leaf and blossom, the banks are full of wild primroses, and wild orchids, this will be followed rapidly by vast carpets of poppies right across the valley. At night the valley is full of toads and frogs looking for their ideal mate,to followed soon by crickets doing the same, and almost time for that magical sight of the night air filled with firefly’s. These have to be seen to be believed they could almost have you believe in fairies, in fact when we had two granddaughter’s here last year they had to have them on their hands to prove they were really not.
