Now starts my first challenge, to write a new page every month instead of just updating the previous months news. I will start with some pictures of the last harvest of foder for this year, as you can see like everything else here it is very much a family affair. As we always update our site monthly what you read is news that is being written during the previous month so although the site is updated in September, the news is really what happened in August. So with that explained so clearly I will continue with our news, given that we live in such a rural part of the country it amazes me that so much seems to happen to us.
The pictures above show just how hard and long in life the people here work, but it seem to me that a good life style together with work and a healthy diet seems to do somthing all the (experts) advising on a healthy life could well learn from. The scenes here are so typical of the way of life all the folks here seem to work forever, but they appear to enjoy it and people dont get old and lonley and sit around (waiting for god). The property boom seems to be continuing unabated, the problem with that of course is that most of it will be bought up by Holiday Home Buyers, and Developers which will have the same effect you now find in England. Namely villages full of empty houses except for weekends and holiday periods, and with a loss of local people to keep the villages going we will see shops and other amenities disappearing. This area is protected from new development, with building work being restricted to only existing houses so the house stock will dry up eventually, making it to expensive for local people to buy, again much as has already happened in England. Although at the moment there are still a lot of old and dilapidated properties around, the problem is most of the younger population all want to live in towns or villages and seem to have no idea of the valuable assets being snapped up by outsiders (like us).Enough of that now, life here is still good so we will continue to enjoy it and keep making new friends we as go. If you read this and have any questions please dont be afraid to E-mail us and we will help where we can. While I am writing this unfortunately the weather is going through a bad spell, as it has for the last week thunderstorms and rain but it is still warm. As far as I can tell it will last like this for about another week, until we get back to more settled weather. We are now in full swing into the ‘Festa’ season with all the town and villages holding their own festival. We have been to some of them although there are to many to attend all of them. They are all great in their own way with every one having it own theme. Our local comune Monte San Martino held a beer festa with other events such as pop music, vintage motor cycles, plus other events. Others have events of Pageants, Inter village contests, Opera, Music Festivals, and more. Another reason to preserve an active lived in community. I could go on but I will leave it here as Liz said you might get bored with to much of my waffling on.
As you may have seen on our About Us page, the two fearless guardians sadly became one in September when we lost our much loved Retriever but she had a long and happy life. Our move to Italy in her later years proved to be very beneficial for her, the English climate was taking its toll on her mobility, but after the move she gained a new lease of life for a while and was able to enjoy her walks and romps for a little longer. The problem then followed of Mitzi our Westie missing her badly, it wasn’t just that they were good friends and companions but also Mitzi is a born organiser and was left with only us to boss around which isn’t the same. So today our friends and neighbours turned up with TWO puppies to choose from, now you dont get many guesses as to the end result! yes we are now the proud owners of two new puppies. Mitzi was not to impressed by being adopted by two babies, but after a few hours of letting them know who the undisputed boss is she is starting to take them under her wing and show them how to become the Fearless Guardians they will be expected to be. Below as is to be expected when new arrivals come on the scene we just have to bore you with a few pictures, please dont ask us to give you a breed or pedigree, all we know is they will be small and Heinz used to have 57 varieties.
We have kept ourselves very busy this month with guests, decorating and gardening work, and house reports, so the loss has been a bit easier. Also when some one has also found their dream holiday home and thanks us for any help we may have been in helping, makes us feel even more that our decision to make a life here has been the right thing to do for us. Summer seems to be almost over for us now and there is already snow on the higher peaks of the mountains, so the skiing season will not be far away now, but we will be very unlucky if we dont spend at least some of almost every day outside even through the winter months so our guests always have something happening.
